[no feet fetish for molly! she chuckles a little at that... but her expression becomes serious after a moment, and she looks down again.]
I still... really don't think it was Ming-xiong. [which is maybe the opposite of what molly is saying now; but, it's less that she thinks he wouldn't kill at all, and more that - ] I think, if it was him, he would have told me what he did.
I don't care if it was him or not. [He reaches over to just. Squeeze her shoulder.] I don't. That's not my point at all-- I think, in the end if I had to be anything, I'd rather be a person that you can rely on to help you out of bind than one that cares more about solving a fucking murder puzzle and hurting my friend.
You are that kind of person. I know I can rely on you.
[and god, she really relied on him today. not only that, but he came through for her - he and gu yun and yuri, and harrow, too. today could have played out much differently than it did, and she's well aware of the fact that the help he and the others offered was instrumental in it.]
I agree with you - we do need to confront unpleasant truths. And I think the truth of what happened probably is unpleasant, I just... [she's still very sure that ming yi was innocent.] ...I wholeheartedly believe it wasn't him.
But if it also wasn't Fukuda, I don't know where else that leaves us to look for answers.
Douman, Fukuda, Gojou, Law, Omi, Ming Yi, Childe, Gu Yun, Vlad, and Steven were the only hands that fit that shovel.
We know it isn't Fukuda. We know it isn't Ming Yi. If it's Gu Yun, I'd really rather not know. [also he like. had a skeleton hand that couldn't hold things at the time. as did Childe?] Steven certainly didn't bash his own head in.
It couldn't possibly be Gu-xiong or Childe... their hands, right?
[...]
Which leaves... Douman, Gojou, Law, Omi, and Vlad. [her brow furrows] I do still think it's strange that Vlad wanted to stay where I was all of a sudden. But he turned up dead, too, so he couldn't have hidden Ming-xiong's shovel or gotten the blood on his boots.
Their hands. They couldn't exactly hold onto things very well either.
[do NOT ask how learned that.]
I . . . don't think it was Vlad either. As you said, he'd have no opportunity to return the shoes or hide the shovel. Because he was dead. Omi seems-- not the type.
I'd find it difficult to believe it was Omi, without other evidence that pointed to him. [he really does seem not the type, though.] So... Douman, Gojou, or Law?
That doesn't really fit with the theory that it was someone who started in the gardens that took Ming-xiong's things, but most of the people whose hands it could have been don't fit that. So, it must've been someone who went out of their way to look for him.
[. . . Oh. That is a nice one. The lanterns filling the sky, the cheers and revelry and lavish spending - it's hard not to be a little jealous of such a beautiful sight. He hadn't imagined it to be like that. He'd thought it was some sort of battle, an arena competition, but this-- this is better.
He still thinks she should claim first place.]
Next year, we'll make sure you get four-- no, five thousand lanterns!

it was just kissing]
Maybe we're just fucking overcomplicating it.
no subject
Maybe...
[she sighs and just. leans over to rest her head on his shoulder.]
I really hate all of this.
no subject
It's fucked.
[a pause.]
Still, glad I've met you.
no subject
...I'm glad I've met you, too. It's strange - it's only been a few weeks, but I can't imagine not knowing you.
no subject
As you'd know, sometimes twists of fate are quite strange, aren't they?

[she looks really, really touched, though. molly is sweet.]
Even the Heavenly Emperor himself didn't get more than a thousand! His Highness with his three thousand lanterns - now, that was impressive.

His Highness will be melting into his boots at the sight of your showing.

[a beat]
I'll gladly take second, though.
