More than anything, they make me question the nature of this place. If it is working as designed, then why include something like executions, deliberately built for suffering?
...if the intent was simply to punish whoever we voted for, there wouldn't be any need to involve one of us at random so directly in them.
[like.
they could still be made to watch, of course, but all of those executions honestly could have just been carried out solo. torment beau with an obstacle course only for her to fall into lava at the end, just trap hk-47 in a room that's slowly closing in on him, give fukuda the choice between freezing to death while conscious or injecting himself, vent law out into space...]
Perhaps the intent is to give someone who was voted for incorrectly a chance to fight for their life, but... that isn't quite fair to the person who is made to carry fight them. The whole thing feels senseless, but it seems especially so to involve someone who had nothing to do with it in that way.
I don't think there's any fairness to be found in a place such as this.
[ they've already seen it in these terrible adventures, in the cruelty of watching beau's struggle, in everything. ]
...I still don't understand the grander scheme of it all. It strikes me that there must be something, some actual rhyme or reason for us to be present, but I don't know what it could be.
[ she doesn't really want sqx to be the sort of person who understands this. she takes a sip of her wine, though she doesn't seem to be enjoying it much. ]
It feels sometimes that indulging is an excuse to push us—what depravities are we willing to commit for the sake of a wish?

I don't understand it, either. ...I'd like to be able to figure it out, but...
[...]
I can't wrap my mind around it.
[but maybe not being able to understand it without help just means their way of thinking isn't as twisted as whatever is coming up with it?
not necessarily a bad thing, really.]

Perhaps that's a good thing.

...I get that feeling sometimes, too. Like we're being tested, somehow, on how far we're willing to go.
