but she looks up when she hears footsteps.]

Miss Lenore. [she smiles.] ...that's right, you wanted to talk.

[lenore returns the smile.] Yes, I did.

[she scans the bottles behind the bar for a fancy-looking red wine, pours herself a glass, and sits next to her.]

I've never heard anyone call themselves a 'god' before. I'm quite curious as to what that entails.

Well, it's rather straight forward. I'm Shi Qingxuan - the Lady Windmaster. Or Lord Windmaster, depending.

[that last bit is mumbled.]

My power is over the wind.

The wind? [she takes a sip, thoughtful.]

I heard that people in far lands worshipped a variety of gods, believed to each rule over specific elements and domains. Is that the case for you, then? Are there many gods where you're from?

[shiftingwinds]

That's right.

[she nods! lenore's pretty quick to grasp this. impressive.]

I'm one of the five Elemental Masters. There are other types of gods, of course - the martial gods, civil gods, literature gods, medicinal gods... [she shrugs.] As many things are there are that mortals pray for, there are gods to oversee them.

[sistocracy]

Goodness, that sounds rather hectic. And all of you, catering to the whims of mortals?

[shiftingwinds]

The more of them that worship us, the more powerful we become. It's mutually beneficial.

[sistocracy]

Interesting. I wonder if it works that way for all gods.

Where I'm from, most humans only worship one god, believing him to be all-powerful.

[shiftingwinds]

...a single god? [???] How could that possibly work? He'd be overwhelmed.

[sistocracy]

Maybe he is! Supposedly, he works in mysterious ways, and people aren't likely to lose their faith, even if their prayers go unanswered.

Oh, yes. Very often.

... Wait, do you actually try to answer every prayer directed your way?

[shiftingwinds]

I try to at least review them, or have a junior official do so and forward the most important ones to me. There are some that can't be answered, of course - people ask for things that aren't necessarily in my domain to give them, or that could cause problems if I did - but...

[she shrugs]

Being a god is my job. I wouldn't be a very good god if I ignored their prayers.

[sistocracy]

[lenore laughs a bit at that!]

That does sound like quite the occupation! I wondered what could possibly entice a god to participate in something like this, but perhaps you really needed a vacation.

[shiftingwinds]

Oh, we gods have our problems too. And we all have things we want.

[she chuckles]

What of you, Miss Lenore? I can't help but be curious about what it was that borught you here...

[sistocracy]

Me? Hm... [she takes a sip of wine.]

There was a terrible war very recently, one which left chaos and destruction in its wake. It's... a lofty goal, but my sisters and I wish to restore peace and order to the land.

[shiftingwinds]

[me, who is actually canon familiar: sqx would you please stop trusting people for five goddamn seconds please i'm begging you]

And you? What do you want from all of this?

Nothing so grand as that. There's a monster that's plagued me since before I ascended to godhood - I came here for the power to deal with it, since it's proven difficult to handle.

[she shrugs]

I want to stop it before it hurts someone I care about.

[sistocracy]

What kind of monster? Must be something incredible, if even a god struggles with it.

[shiftingwinds]

A parasitic, malicious ghosts that feeds on and grows stronger from fear.

...and even gods aren't immune to fear.

[sistocracy]

That does sound rather nasty. And gods really do have their weaknesses... Actually, that brings a philosophical sort of question to mind.

Can gods sin?

[shiftingwinds]

That is an interesting question.

Gods can be banished from the Heavens, so I'd say we can. And even if that wasn't the case, I've certainly been sinning since we arrived here.

I see. It's comforting, in a way, to hear that divinity isn't necessarily perfection, like so many seem to believe.

Although... in that case, are you taking a risk by participating in all this?

[could she get banished for all this sinning?]

Anything is a risk, isn't it?

[buuuut... well, she'll think about that.]

Leaving aside the murder for a moment [because gods are 100% not meant to harm mortals] none of the other things we've been asked to do are things that I haven't seen other gods doing in the heavens.

Why, there's one god I know who could probably make Lust's entire team blush!
